The Houston Rockets are a bad basketball team. Despite losing Rudy Gobert to an ejection early in the game, the Utah Jazz still held an 8 point lead at halftime and grew it to 20 in five minutes. This game was over before it started because every Rockets game is over before it starts. The only two teams in the west more abjectly pathetic than the Rockets are the San Antonio Spurs and the Phoenix Suns, and those two teams at least have some sort of excuse. Unless they prove it wrong, the Rockets are a bad basketball team and nothing more.
The Jazz shot 37-57 on two point shots. The Rockets shot 38% overall and 22% from three point range. The offense has cratered, the defense is hopeless, the new guys are all bad, the old guys are all old, and the team has spiraled well past the point of no return.
If you like the Rockets, stop watching these games. If someone tells you they've gone on a winning streak and are good again this season, don't listen. The Rockets are bad and will keep being bad because that's what bad teams do. Early frustration and complacency have given way to a downward spiral and a self-fulfilling prophecy that the players, coaches and fans see come true more often than not.
It's no longer a matter of talent, or scheme, or depth, or luck, or matchup or even hustle. The team is broken, and will remain so until the end of the season. There is no trade, no signing, no adjustment, no firing nor hiring which will resolve this problem. The team knows that they are bad, which assures that they will continue to be bad.
The team, unfortunately, cannot formally give up and just prepare for next season. The fans, however, can. If you hate the Rockets, then it's good that someone can enjoy this gruesome season. If you like the Rockets, stop watching these games. There's not much else to say about this team.
