Gerald Green is back with his Houston roots. After signing with the team mid-season last season and contributing off the bench, Green will remain with the Rockets on a one-year, $2.4 million minimum deal. Shams Charania of Yahoo was first to report the news.
Green came off the bench and provided an instant spark with his three-point shooting and athleticism. While his defense was iffy at times, the effort was there and he actually made a difference on that end during the Western Conference Finals. Having someone with that athleticism makes it easier to keep them on the court.

Re-signing someone like Green became a priority immediately after the Rockets lost starting forward Trevor Ariza to the Phoenix Suns. A big role at the position will need to be filled. Ariza's defense will be severely missed even if it was fading.

It is clear Green just loves playing for his hometown team. He brought a certain energy and the city embraced that along with the players. Other teams were reported to show interest in his services after his spark that began in December. Whether it is donning nearly every Houston jersey or braiding his hair with a Houston sports team logo, Green showed his love for the organization and is being rewarded for it.
