Bad news for Rockets fans as ESPN's Calvin Watkins reports that Patrick Beverley may be on his way to knee surgery.
Beverley had missed the last four preseason games (including missing the trip to China altogether) with soreness in his left knee. It seems as though this soreness is a bigger deal than originally anticipated, and Beverley will undergo more evaluation before a decision is made to have surgery.
Entering his 5th season in the NBA, Beverley was set to be Houston's starting shooting guard to complement James Harden in his new role as point guard. Beverley's defensive prowess and spot-up shooting are a perfect fit for what the Rockets want to do this year, but it look like that will have to wait a while. Head Coach Mike D'Antoni has already said that he doesn't expect Beverley to be able to play in the season opener against the Los Angeles Lakers.
It seems as though newcomer Eric Gordon would take Patrick's spot as the starting shooting guard until Beverley is issued a clean bill of health.
